Robert Kills It.

This is Robert. Many of you know him as the coolest, kindest, most hilarious person ever. Some of you just know that he’s my husband. Well today I get to brag about how at 30 years old he went back to school.

Robert wasn’t always the best student, and he really struggled his last year of high school after going blind in his left eye and needing 5 Surgeries that year (each with a 2 week recovery) He overcame that challenge and was able to graduate high school. He’s tried college a few times since then but it has always been a struggle for him and he didn’t get very far.

But he earned good money, he was a great husband and I just encouraged him not to go to college. “It’s not for everyone - and you’re doing pretty well without it.” I said, “look we have a nice house and we’re able to be charitable, and we feed our two cats 😂 - you don’t need to go to college.”

But Robert has a dream and that dream requires a college degree. So this year when he decided to try again, we were both nervous. Everyone told Robert just to try his best. C’s get degrees. Not because we didn’t think he was capable because we all didn’t want him to put too much pressure on him self, we didn’t want him to be discouraged if he ended the semester with just decent grades.

Well we were all wrong

Robert who works full time, is always the first to volunteer to help someone, who drives an hour each way to work, got a 3.85 GPA. I’m so incredibly proud of this man. I’ve learned my lesson not to lower my expectations of him. I watched him spend countless nights weekends, and early mornings studying. I watched him miss out on a bunch of things he would normally hate to say no to just so he could have a leg up. I watched him stress over finals when he realized how close he was to straight As. And I’m so proud of him for proving to himself and the rest of us what he could accomplish.

If you see him around, please give him a pat on the back or a congratulations!
